Medical Architecture were engaged by South Australian Health with Durrow Management to participate in the development of the exemplar design for the replacement of the Royal Adelaide Hospital as international health care architects for the replacement of the existing Royal Adelaide Hospital that will be delivered under Public Private Partnership model. Opening in 2016, it will become the cornerstone of South Australia’s Health Care Plan and the largest hospital in South Australia. The new RAH will lead cultural change in the South Australian health system and promote innovation in health care delivery, education and training.
The aim has been to bring together a modern approach to departmental organisation and workforce planning with a very high quality patient environment, low energy and ecologically conscious design.
Working closely with the SA Health management and clinical teams, Medical Architecture worked on a 24 hour cycle to develop coordinated and costed floor plans for the acute teaching hospital underpinned by a site specific masterplan relating to the strong city planning framework of Adelaide. This work represents the ‘state of the art’ in current hospital design. This is the result of benchmarking against global competitors and brings together a leading team of specialist from around the world.
