The new mental health developments on the All Saints site provide services for the immediate locality of Ladywood and Handsworth only. These new facilities, together with facilities developed on the Highcroft Hospital site, allowed the closure of the main All Saints Hospital and the vast majority of associated buildings on the site, in mid 2000.

The development comprises the following new and refurbished existing buildings:

  • 30 bed new build adult acute unit with shared therapeutic activity spaces.
  • 12 bed new build intensive therapy unit
  • 20 bed refurbishment of older adult acute unit including a 20 place day hospital.

In order to reconfigure the site for disposal and re-development the general approach was to locate any new mental health facilities on its periphery so that they integrate with the surrounding community and take advantage of public open space for outlook and recreational opportunities.
