Mental Health
Medical Architecture are award winning designers in the field of mental health architecture. We have spent more than a decade developing our approach to the design of buildings for people with mental illness. Our aim is to create an environment that is:
Protective
Emphasis on individual and group safety and security and providing an environment for people who are vulnerable, at risk from self harm or a danger to others, and allowing flexible separation of different patient/client groups.
Homely
Providing opportunities for privacy as well as social contact, indoor and out, in order to facilitate self-development.
Therapeutic
A structured and supportive setting. The challenge for designers is to reconcile the essential safety and security measures within a domestic setting, without resorting to bland or superficial architectural references.
