Located in a district of North Liverpool, approximately 3km from the city centre, the Walton Hospital site is located in a densely populated urban area. It is one of five sites chosen for mental healthcare development as part of the Mersey Care NHS Trust TIME (To Improve MEntal Health Environments) project. The new, modernised facilities will offer 85 beds and provide the following acute care services:

Acute In-patient wards for adults and older people
Acute inpatient ward for Dementia Services
Acute Day Services, Shared Activity/Therapy Space
Assessment Space
Office accommodation for Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team
Learning and Educational Space
Office and General Support Space.
